Heroes Hub

Welcome to the heroes hub for Tenebris: Terra Incognita. After version 1.0 you can experiment with 23 heroes and matching talent trees—hundreds of active and passive skills once basic abilities and gear modifiers are counted. This section explains how the roster is structured, which pages to read first, and how hero choice interacts with missions on the dark planet below the crashed starship Solaris.

How the roster is organized

You begin with five recognizable basic archetypes:

  • Miles — marine-style damage dealer
  • Pellentes — light sniper / precision damage
  • Defencor — frontline tank and provocateur
  • Medicus — healer and sustain specialist
  • Technicus — gadgets, locks, and technical utility

As heroes gain experience, the Career system opens advanced subclasses around levels 11 and 21. Examples players care about include Impetum, Sancto, Vidua, Legionnaire, Ignifer, Centurio, Phoenix, Librator, and other advanced lines added through Early Access and the 1.0 subclass wave. Each specialization has its own talent tree, so two heroes who share a basic archetype can play very differently after promotion.

Why hero choice matters more than raw levels

Tenebris is a single-player turn-based tactical RPG. Your limiting factors are formation space (four heroes), Solaris resources, hospital capacity, and the mission timer pressure created by tough enemy packs. A higher-level hero in the wrong role still fails briefings that need armor ignore, burn, locks, or sustained healing.

Think in roles before names:

  1. Tempo damage — delete or cripple threats before they multiply.
  2. Frontline — hold tiles, provoke, regenerate armor.
  3. Sustain — healing, cleanses, stimulants synergy.
  4. Utility — locks, gadgets, hybrid tech damage.

Most successful campaigns keep at least three of those four roles covered in every deployed foursome. Details and example cores are on the Best Squads page.

Progression fantasy without spoilers

Early hours teach the five basics through tutorial-adjacent missions and Misty Wasteland pressure. Mid game is where careers rewrite kits—Impetum chains, Sancto/Vidua sniper identities, Legionnaire armor tools, Ignifer heat tanks. Late 1.0 content expects you to understand specialized subclasses, denser biomes such as Necronom territory, and bosses that punish one-note teams. Read Version 1.0 when you return from an EA break so you know what changed in the roster ceiling.

Equipment multiplies careers. Weapons and armor do not only add stats; they can alter talents or grant new buttons. A promotion without a gear plan is only half a build. Keep arsenal shopping aligned with the careers you actually field.

Practical roster management on the Solaris

  • Awaken recruits carefully; every body competes for XP and beds.
  • Hospitalize early rather than fielding permanently crippled heroes into bosses.
  • Maintain a bench for locks, burns, and injuries.
  • Reset talents when you change career direction instead of forcing a mismatched tree—see Career System.
  • Re-check tiers after patches on the Updates Hub.

New players should still start with Getting Started and the Controls reference before optimizing dual specialty trees.
